FAQ

Can I afford professional organizing?
                Let’s be honest, it may seem expensive up front. But considering professional organizing an investment in your home, your family, your life….even your sanity! I am happy to work with you on any project – big or small – and spread it out over a 6 month period if need be. Or, for a less expensive option, I offer virtual organization via Skype and FaceTime. Will you make me throw everything away?
                Absolutely not. The items in your house are just that….yours! Therefore, you are the only one who can decide what to do with them. However, it is my job to offer a third party perspective, as well as encourage you to purge & simplify by reducing the excess in your home & life.

How long does an average room take?
                It depends. Every home & client is unique, which makes organizing time fluctuate. Multiple variables can affect the length of each project…..the level of clutter, the size of the space you want organized, and how quickly you make decisions. That being said, here are a few rough estimates:
Walk-in closet = 4-8 hours
Pantry = 4-6 hours
Kitchen cabinets = 2-4 hours
Bathroom = 2-4 hours
Linen closet = 1-3 hours
Garage = 6-12 hours

Do I need to do anything before our first visit (or video chat)?
                Not at all. It’s best if I see the space in its natural, cluttered state! This will help me to give the most realistic recommendations. Don’t feel the need to go purchase any bins or baskets yet either, though I know it’s tempting because of all the cute options out there. Buying/finding containers is actually the last step in this organizing process. And honestly, you’d be surprised at how many bins & baskets already in your home can be used.

What if we decide I do need some organizational products….can you shop for me?
                Yes, I’d be happy to. But I add a 25% shopping fee to the total purchase price to cover my time and effort.

How hard is the upkeep after the organizing sessions are over?
                Truth be told, it’s going to take some effort on your part. Once I leave, your house will not just magically stay that way (especially if you have small children)! But I’m confident that the combination of the products we select in addition to the systems I help you implement will make future organizing a lot easier for you, both day to day and in the long term. Think about it this way – organizing is like exercise, or even laundry…it’s an ongoing thing. You have to be willing to put things away when you are done with them, and teach your children to have a vested interest as well. You have to be willing to make changes and learn new skills, and be ready to make an ongoing commitment to your space and yourself. And I’m sure a few places in your home will become unruly again, and need to be revisited. But my hope is that once I leave, you will have the tools, knowledge, and systems to do it yourself …and in significantly less time than before.

What if I live outside of your service area?
                I generally work with clients in Tuscaloosa, AL and surrounding areas. However, I am willing to travel up to 60 minutes for a client, for an added $25/day.
                If you live even further away than that, I offer virtual organizing via Skype or FaceTime. Check out the details here.

In what room do you think a client can get the greatest benefit from hiring a professional organizer?
                That’s hard to answer, just because I think it’s different for everyone. I would just say the room the room you spend the most time in. For me, that’s a tie between the kitchen and the craft room/office. Whenever those spaces start to get cluttered, it drives me crazy! And if you have small kids that spend a lot of time in a playroom, I’d say getting that space organized would be the greatest benefit (to them & to you).
                Looking at the larger picture, I think working with a professional organizer has so many long-term benefits. Just think about it….you will spend less time hunting down a pair of shoes for that big meeting….you are more willing to cook a good meal for your family when everything you need is right at your fingertips….your kids don’t have to tear apart the playroom just to find their favorite movie. These are small examples but all lead to the same idea. Being organized simplifies your life in so many ways! I just want you to start enjoying the things that you own, instead of them owning you.

How do I get started?
                First, go to my Services page to see what package is best for you. Then, email me at organizingplus.123@gmail.com to set up an appointment. I will send a new client questionnaire for you to fill out, so I can get to know you, your home, and your situation a little better. (But don’t stress if you can’t get it done before our appointment; we will go over it during our first visit or video chat!)
